Weekly Devotion 327 – New Beginnings

“Sing to Adonai a new song! Sing to Adonai all the earth!” (Ps.96:1)

Today commences a new week, a new beginning and a new song of worship to our God who alone is worthy of our praise, infinitely more than we can fathom. Just peek underneath the surface of your circumstances, it only takes a sustained moment. You will discover the arms of a loving Father who is able to meet your deepest needs according to His riches through Messiah Yeshua. (Phil 4:19)

He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Is it not true that even out of the ashes of the Holocaust was born the state of Israel? And out of the ashes of our disappointments and regrets will also arise something of infinite worth that underlies something of ultimate profoundness regarding the enduring nature of God’s eternal purposes for both you and me, even as it is for Israel His treasured possession.

God created for us new beginnings symbolised by the eight candles lit at Hanukah, and all of this was made possible through Yeshua the Light of the World. Number eight represents the Redeemer who offers each person the possibility of a new beginning. This is well illustrated in the Koine Greek. His name is ‘IHSOUS,’ (Yeshua) that has a numerical value of 888 (I=10; H=8; S=200; O=70; U=400; S=200). And the number eight in Scripture also connects directly with our Messiah who was resurrected following His crucifixion on the first day of the week (i.e., on the eighth day). He who has begun a great work within us will not stop in mid-design but continue to completion. (Phil 1:6)

At Hanukah, we recall the Jewish tradition concerning the oil of the Temple Menorah candlestick. Following the rededication of the Temple in 165BC, it burned for eight days with just one day’s supply, providing the priests time to produce another batch that took another seven days to prepare.

God is entirely faithful and always on time! Perfect timing – perfect God!
