Weekly Devotion 265 – Russian Roulette

RUSSIAN ROULETTE by Raphael ben Levi

“In Adonai’s hand there is a cup of wine, foaming, richly spiced; When he pours it out, all the wicked of the earth will drain it, drinking it to the dregs.” (Rev.14:10)

The foaming cup of God’s wrath is a vivid description conjuring up terrifying images of Divine judgment. It can take some time before the cup is filled to the brim and overflows, illustrating the merciful character of God. The Hebrew word for mercy is ‘rakhamim’ and is connected to the word ‘rekhem’ meaning womb which conveys the compassion of a mother for her offspring.

But, I would strongly advise against anyone compromising one’s relationship with God for the thrill of playing spiritual Russian Roulette; risking gambling away the gift of eternal life for the fleeting pleasures of this world. The foaming cup of God’s wrath is rising higher and higher as we see godliness abandoned in place of corruption and self-interest. Make sure you are in a right place with the Lord, and occupy your time well. Earnestly walk in His ways, yielding to His perfect will, a child of God humbled and forgiven, filled with His love. Be a faithful witness; reaching out with boldness and compassion to those who have been blinded by the deceitfulness and glamour of this world. The sands of time are running out fast…
