GOD’S HIGHWAY by Raphael ben Levi
“A highway will be there, a way called ‘the way of holiness.’ The unclean will not pass over it, but it will be for those He guides.” (Isa.35:8)
God’s highway is narrow and in some ways unattractive since it’s strewn with obstacles although the journey provides the greatest investment for humanity. God promises to accompany us at every moment – amid the joys and disappointments, the discouragements and euphorias, the brutalities of life and the sweet victories – whatever we are facing. And when things become just too much He carries us on His shoulders – footprints in the sand…
We may encounter casualties by the wayside who caved in to the enemy’s lies and intimidations; those who chose to believe distortions, half-truths or facts that contradict the reality. Such was the difficult choice presented to Hezekiah when the Assyrian army came against him. The fortified cities around Jerusalem had been taken; the northern tribes had been defeated and taken into exile: Judah’s alliance with Egypt was worthless – these were the facts. And then there was the outright lie of the Assyrians who claimed that God had sent them to destroy Jerusalem!
Hezekiah had to choose whether God is greater than every problem or not. It was an Abram-Isaac moment – the Binding of Isaac. Would he choose the Highway of Holiness or succumb to the devastation of an enemy’s alluring intimidation in the face of impending defeat? Hezekiah made the wise choice and we all know how the story ended.
In these days we face barrages of demonically inspired onslaughts of evil manifested throughout the world, manicured to perfection. Unprecedented waves of deceptions are digging in their claws causing many a brave-heart’s arms to hang limp in the face of impossible odds. But God is seeking out Hezekiah’s whose eyes remain steadfast in the face of impossibilities and place their trust in the Living God who always has the final word and whose eternal purposes prevail, unveiled in the fullness of time.
