Weekly Devotions 372 – Day of Trouble

DAYS OF TROUBLE – by Raphael ben Levi

“For He will conceal me in His shelter on the day of trouble. He will hide me in the folds of His tent; he will set me on a rock. Even though my father and mother have left me, Adonai will care for me.” Ps.27:5:10

In this psalm, David reveals something of great significance: “Even though my father and mother have left me, Adonai will care for me.” The Hebrew word to be estranged is ‘Zar’ rooted in the word ‘Mamzar’ meaning illegitimate. In Ps.69:21 David laments, “they gave me gall for food and vinegar to drink” (which also prophetically refers to Yeshua’s crucifixion) implying that His brothers made life extremely hard for him.

Revealed in several of David’s psalms were things he experienced throughout his younger years where loneliness and rejection became his familiar companions: (“I am worn out from crying, and my throat is dry. I have waited for you till my eyes are blurred.” “You know how I am insulted, mocked, and disgraced; you know every one of my enemies. I am crushed by insults, and I feel sick. I had hoped for mercy and pity, but there was none.” (Ps.69:3:19-20)

The sages teach us that all of this was because he carried the personal shame of his mother’s sin as implied in Ps.51:5: “Behold I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me.” (i.e., David’s mother committed adultery and was the byproduct of her infidelity)

How amazing that one like David who was unjustly punished for the sins of his parents, despised and rejected by his family and humiliated by all those who surrounded his life, was yet chosen by God to be the next king of Israel from whose lineage would be birthed the Messiah of the world!

Today, whatever you might be facing, grasp tightly the fact that God has a unique calling and destiny over your life that is far greater than you can ever imagine!
