LIFE IS NOT MEANINGLESS
“For everything there is a season, a right time for every intention under heaven -“ Ecclesiastes (Koholet) 3:1
It is amazing just how much we are influenced by time from basics like eating, sleeping and all manner of other types of mundane routines to spiritual areas such as prayer, personal devotions, ministry and the like which combined largely govern our habits and destinies.
It is well nigh impossible to imagine existing in a vacuum without pointers or patterns to set our boundaries or priorities. This was one of the things which King Solomon queried in his quest for answers to life’s imponderables. According to him, all pursuits are meaningless however noble or selfish, pleasurable or indented with pain and suffering, because in the end everyone must face the spectre of death. All our accumulated possessions and
deposits in life’s bank account must be left behind and whatever fame or status we may have held is eventually lost in new generations or confined to dusty library shelves.
Amidst the rather gloomy and somewhat pessimistic outlook overshadowing Ecclesiastes, Solomon ultimately discovered something of immense importance: God is in complete control and is vitally interested in even the smallest detail of our lives having an order and timing for everything in life. Life is not an arbitrary, aimless or pointless adventure: “For everything there is a season, a right time for every intention under heaven.” For the
believer, this statement is of incredible significance. When we place our lives under the full control of our Redeemer, we relinquish the tyranny of the urgent and exchange it for the active and unshakable shalom (what the Book of Hebrews describes as His ‘Sabbath rest’) that He offers us through Messiah Yeshua. No more sleepless nights trying to work out smallest details for every challenge or conundrum we may be facing that appears out of
sync with our own timings and reckonings. For everything there is indeed a season and Scripture makes it clear that He always has His perfect timing for everything: a season and a reason!
Let’s reach out with arms outstretched as we take captive everything from without and within from His perspective. As for God, His ways are perfect. He will never suffer the righteous to be
moved! With Him we can run through a troop of men and with our God we can leap a wall! (Psalm 18:29-31) Choose this day to walk as overcomers through the precious blood of Messiah Jesus. He so desires to cradles us high above upon His shoulders to display for us the breathtaking views which we behold with spiritual eyes. Just the smallest glimpse will be enough to know that all is well. Raphael ben Levi
